As the first ME\/CFS-specific biobank in Europe, its rigorous protocols have set a global standard, serving as a model for ME\/CFS biobanks worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"padding-top:0\">The UKMEB is compliant with the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hta.gov.uk\/guidance-professionals\/hta-legislation\">Human Tissue Act 2004<\/a> <\/span>and with the most rigorous procedures to ensure confidentiality and the ethical management of data and tissues. However, this work and information usually remain within the researcher\u2019s institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers have long frozen and stored biological samples for robust experimental design and comparison over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Biobanking has revolutionized this process with standardized protocols and centralized storage, ensuring high-quality samples. Over 30,000 aliquots of blood (collected over multiple time-points) have been processed and are currently held at the UCL\/RFH Biobank in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Samples are available from four groups of participants:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People with mild and moderate ME\/CFS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People with severe (home\/bed-bound) ME\/CFS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People with Multiple sclerosis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Healthy controls<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>ME\/CFS participants have been diagnosed by physicians and are compliant with CDC \u201994 (Fukuda) and Canadian Consensus Criteria (CC).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK ME\/CFS Biobank The UK ME\/CFS Biobank (UKMEB) is an open resource for clinical and biomedical research into ME\/CFS.
