Dr Luis Nacul appointed to new position in Canada
The CureME team is delighted to share the news that our Principal Investigator Dr Luis Nacul has been appointed as Medical Director of the Complex Chronic Diseases Program at British Columbia Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. This appointment is the result of close collaboration with colleagues in Canada, and comes after Luis’s term as International Advisor to the Canadian Collaborative Network on ME/CFS.
Luis will continue to be part of and fully committed to the work of CureME, and will continue to lead on various aspects of its work, including the building of collaborations, seeking further funding for ME research in the UK, and contributing to national efforts to deliver transformative change in the field. He will continue to have a post at LSHTM on a part-time basis, and his appointment in Canada also includes protected time for research.
His membership of the NICE Guideline Development Committee will be unaffected, however unfortunately, as a result of the new appointment, he has had to step down from the Suffolk ME/CFS Specialist Service – efforts are underway to find a replacement, so that clinics in Ipswich can continue.
This new post will strengthen collaborations between CureME and North America at an exciting moment for both Canada and the UK, where research interest in ME/CFS is growing. Luis will start his new role this month, and we wish him the very best for his new appointment on either side of the Atlantic!
